Firebird PR travels to the continent, but it's no pic-nic

Earlier this month we attended the European Science Open Forum in Turin, Italy, with our client Diamond Light Source, the UK's national synchrotron. Speakers from Diamond presented lectures on a range of scientific studies undertaken using the synchrotron's facilities, from metal-munching earthworms to early detection of cancer.

We used the opportunity the conference provided to network and share information with colleagues from around the world as part of an independent review we are currently conducting of communications practices across European synchrotrons.

From Italy, we then travelled onwards to the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility in Grenoble, France where we participated in a series of strategic meetings bringing together synchrotrons from all over the continent.

Long hours and temperatures in the 30s made it a challenging working environment, but we successfully completed interviews and two separate focus groups with representatives from nine facilities across Europe.
