Firebird PR wins Science Oxford capital build brief

Firebird PR has been commissioned to develop a communications strategy for Science Oxford

Firebird PR has been commissioned to develop a long-term communications strategy around Science Oxford's plans to create a new £30million world-class cultural centre for science and enterprise in the very heart of Oxford. The centre, to be designed by internationally renowned architects Foster + Partners, will be a vibrant space, bringing together people, ideas and innovation.

As a first step, Firebird PR organised and managed a VIP reception at which Science Oxford unveiled its plans for the project and launched a public consultation. Coverage achieved included: Oxford Times, Oxford Journal, Oxford Mail, ITV Meridian News, BBC TV and radio, as well as specialist press Building Design Architects, Architects Journal and e-architecture.

For more than 25 years, Science Oxford (previously known as The Oxford Trust) has worked to enthuse children in science and engineering, to help the growth of Oxfordshire’s high-technology businesses and to engage the general public with the wonders of science.

Founded by Sir Martin and Lady Audrey Wood in 1985, Science Oxford is responsible for developing nationally recognised innovative programmes and services. In the early 1990s, Science Oxford created the Oxfordshire Science Festival and instigated innovative science programmes for schools. In 2005, they opened Oxford’s first centre for science and enterprise in St Clements, including a hands-on, interactive gallery and an extensive programme of demonstrations, workshops and talks for all ages.

Science Oxford also provides practical support to businesses, encouraging economic growth through innovation and technology transfer. The organisation has played a pioneering role in the development of innovation centres and Oxford Innovation, their own spin-out company, is widely recognised as a leading provider of services to the knowledge-based economy.
