Director of Firebird receives prestigious accolade

Jane Bevan becomes a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society

It was a proud moment for Firebird Managing Director Jane Bevan on being recently elected as a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society. The RGS is recognised as a leading world centre for geographical learning dedicated to the challenges facing society and the environment. Founded in 1830, it is one of the country's most active learned societies, supporting geographical research, education, fieldwork and expeditions.

A geography graduate from the University of Birmingham, Jane studied for a PGCE in Environmental Studies before spending 7 years teaching geography, history and environmental studies at Bedales, an independent co-educational boarding school in Hampshire.

While her career since then has been in public relations, much of her work for commercial, public sector and not-for profit organisations has drawn on her academic background and interests, including wildlife, conservation, and environmental issues, as well as education and public engagement.

Before setting up her own communications consultancy, Jane worked in-house for the Natural History Museum, the British Trust for Conservation Volunteers and WWF-UK. Over the last 12 years ago the agency's client portfolio has included The National Trust, Earthwatch Europe, The Whitley Fund for Nature, The People's Trust for Endangered Species, Bristol Zoo Gardens, Twycross Zoo, BIAZA, Botanic Gardens Conservation International, Royal Botanic Gardens Kew, The Environment Council and The World Resources Institute, Washington.
